Military Health. Letter reporting on the health situation in the regiment of Saintonge and in Rochefort, August 1786. 18905-7
"In St Savinien on August 9, 1786
I have received, Monsieur le Comte, the letter that you honored me with writing. I have not been able to send you earlier the discharge of the 37•5 that you had sent for [...] by the frigate [...] regarding one of my cousins who bears the same name as me, who was embarked on that frigate; I wrote to him and asked him to send you the discharge that I am sending you. The regiment of Saintonge is overrun with diseases. We have over 300 men and 9 sick officers in the hospitals. We left Rochefort on the 29th of last month but unfortunately too late, there are an immense number of diseases in this town and its suburbs; I fear we may lose many despite all the care I take. Six men have died in the past 15 days, and several are very ill. I have the honor to be with the utmost respect and attachment, Monsieur le Comte.
Your very humble and obedient servant. Le Vte Dalleman (?)."
