"I, the undersigned Marshal of the Camps & Armies of the King of France, certify that Mr. d'Hédouville son served at the Siege of Maastricht under the Orders of H.R.H. the Prince of Hesse, in the Company of the province of Champagne which I had the honor to command, and that he conducted himself very well.

At Maastricht on March 8, 1793."

At the bottom of the document: red wax seal and handwritten annotation signed "d'Allonville": "Endorsed with the seal of His Serene Highness Prince of Hesse who signed the controls.. into your hands."
