HISTORICAL CONTEXT:
The Royal Catholic Army of Normandy, sometimes simply referred to as the Royal Army of Normandy as it included some Protestants among its ranks, was a Chouan army commanded by Louis de Frotté. However, the Norman Chouannerie was limited to the Orne and the south of Manche, and in Maine, some areas in the north of Mayenne.
Its motto was: "Religion, the king, or death!"
