Émigrés. LETTER FROM PRINCE DE CONDÉ TO MR. D'ECQUEVILLY, May 19, 1802. 18920-5
Essex County, May 19, 1802.
"I have received, my dear D'Ecquevilly, your letter of April 4, and I see with regret that my response to you from this country did not reach you. I have delivered and recommended your Memorandum, but as of yet, no response has been received for that, as for many others, and it is quite typical of the English Minister not to reply when they do not wish to grant; in any case, it must be acknowledged that here, the affairs of the Corps are seen as definitively concluded by the continent, by the Commissioners; thus, unfortunately, I do not see any assurances to offer you; I am truly sorry, but I will have your letter forwarded to Russia, and I hope it will meet with more success, and I will recommend its contents; I sympathize greatly with the difficulties you are facing, but you are not alone[...] I shall limit myself to assuring you, my dear D'Ecquevilly, of the feelings of esteem and friendship that you know I have for you."
Signed "Louis Joseph de Bourbon".
