Emigration. SIGNED LETTER FROM THE DUKE OF BROGLIE TO COUNT DE LOSTANGES*, colonel of the Royal Picardie Regiment in Namur, October 27, 1791. 18913-4
"Schönbornslun, 27 October 1791"
"The project you have proposed to me, Sir, could face very great difficulties, according to the various orders successively given by Madame the Governess of the Netherlands to thwart the French Émigrés. I thought that nothing could be done to pass a part of the Royal Picardie regiment, except in conjunction with Mr. de La Chastrie**, who has been in contact with the Austrian generals for a long time: it is therefore necessary that you share your views with him, and find out from him the means he believes are feasible, either to get the cavalry of this Regiment out of France and have them cross the Luxembourg with their horses by putting the weapons in crates, or to establish a company of Officers in Namur or its surroundings. So you must write on these subjects to Mr. de La Chastrie* and follow what he may inform you, of which I ask to be informed.
I have the honor to be, Sir, your very humble and obedient servant.
Signed: Duke of Broglie***."
