GARDE DU CORPS OF MONSIEUR'S GUARD SABER, model 1814, Restoration period. 29261
Guard with four brass branches, the main branch without decoration fixed to the pommel, the three secondary branches are united and decorated at the bottom with a five-leaved flower ending in an acanthus leaf and at the top with an acanthus leaf emerging from a common stem to the three branches. Guard plate with raised edge, without a guard but ending with a fleur-de-lis shaped pommel and marked underneath with "8" (guard's serial number). Wooden handle, which is tied and then covered with grained calf leather and a copper wire filigree.
Curved blade with hollow facets and gutters, the front side is engraved with the motto "GARDES / DU / CORPS / DE / MONSIEUR" framed at the top and bottom by a fleur-de-lis and near the heel by a military trophy. The other side is engraved with the Arms of Monsieur, a military trophy near the heel, and above the face of the Sun on a background of radiant sun. It is signed on the back "Manufre Royale du Klingenthal May 1816." Length 93 cm, width at the heel 2.9 cm.
Steel scabbard with steel cup entrance, brass girth bands, rings, and gilt brass belt loops; the bands are plain and framed by a simple raised bead (H 1.4 cm). It is marked on the back with "8" and signed at the rear "Manceaux." Steel chape in the shape of an ovoid button. Scabbard length 96.4 cm.
