DRAGOON TROOP HELMET, model 1817, Restoration period. 29332

Brass helmet in the Minerva style, with leather visor and neck protector covered in calfskin, encircled by a brass rim folded over the outer edge. The visor and neck protector are lined with black leather. Turban made of cowhide covered with a band of calfskin, covering the visor and neck protector. Brass crest with embossed decorations: the side wings bear a large oak branch occupying the smooth background; the mask is stamped with an oak leaf and at the bottom the Arms of France on a smooth background, with a suspension hook for the chin chain at the base. Black horsehair plume. Chin straps, following the model adopted in 1817 and put into service in 1818, consist of curb chains fixed on a leather band, to be raised and attached to the hook fixed in the middle at the front of the helmet when the chin strap is not under the chin. Brass chain with rounded and equal links in a curb chain style.
Interior padding composed of a black leather headband.
