COLONEL UNIFORM OF THE 1st LANCERS REGIMENT, Second Empire. 27149/26958
CZAPKA
Square-shaped cap (19.5 cm on each side) made of dark blue cloth, adorned with silver braids and a gold-tone brass corner at each angle. Black varnished leather headband, 7.5 cm in height on the sides, topped with a 1 cm silver double braid surmounted by a second 3.7 cm wide lizard-patterned braid.
Front plate in embossed gilded copper featuring a radiant sun with the number "1" in silver metal, plate height of 16 cm.
Metal cockade with a tricolor radiant sun design, lacquered, diameter of 4 cm.
Black varnished leather visor edged with a folded rim on the outer border, lined with green basane leather.
Gold-tone brass rosettes, embossed with lion heads, with double-chained jugulars and a scarlet cloth chinstrap.
Inner lining in black basane leather cut into 7 points.
Silver half-spherical pompom, diameter of 4.8 cm, mounted on wood, lined with scarlet silk and covered with a silver cord.
Plumage made of dark sky-blue cock feathers draping down. Plumage height of 28 cm.
Total height of the headdress is 21.5 cm without the plumage.
Good condition, slight interior base accident.
CORDON RAQUETTES
Silver passementerie cord consisting of a long cord with attaching threads, ending with two raquettes with fringed tassels in large twisted knots known as spinach seeds.
Very good condition.
KURTKA COAT
Entirely made of dark blue cloth piped with jonquil yellow. It closes straight at the front with 8 black horn buttons (3 buttons missing). A jonquil yellow cloth plastron lined with beige satin fabric is attached at the front of the kurtka with 7 uniform buttons on each side. Half-spherical buttons in tin stamped with the number "I". Jonquil yellow collar. Dark blue cloth pointed piped with jonquil yellow cuffs. Jonquil yellow basque revers and false vertical pockets with three points adorned with 10 uniform buttons. Blue cloth shoulder straps with silver braid.
Beige satin lining with a burgundy leather waist belt.
Good condition, restored lower right sleeve.
EPAULETTES
Silver braid body lined with dark blue cloth with a white metal hook, silver fringes, and rotating decorations in the pattern known as "large spinach seeds." Small silver metal uniform buttons stamped with the number "I" (diameter of 1.5 cm). Black printed paper label sewn on each lining marked "DASSIER Hatter Passementier. Patented by His Royal Highness the Duke of Orleans A PÂRIS Rue de Richelieu No. 12". One of the epaulettes includes its complete silver cord for the ribbon of decorations.
Very good condition, slight oxidation from use.
COMMEMORATIVE MEDAL OF THE ITALIAN CAMPAIGN, second type, created in 1859
Round silver medal depicting on the obverse the portrait of the Emperor crowned with laurel, surrounded by the legend "NAPOLEON III EMPEROR". On the reverse, the inscription "ITALIAN CAMPAIGN - 1859" framing the names of the battles "MONTEBELLO, PALESTRO, TURBIGO, MAGENTA, MARIGNAN, SOLFERINO". Surmounted by an imperial crown. Height of 5.3 cm, width of 2.2 cm.
Silk ribbon alternating 6 vertical red stripes and 5 vertical white stripes, bordered with white edges. Width of 1.2 cm.
Very good condition.
WAIST BELT
Golden brass plate embossed with four crossed lances on a sandblasted background, rectangular with cut corners, height of 6.4 cm, width of 5.9 cm. Complete with its hook and slider, lined with dark green basane leather.
Crimson leather covered with scarlet leather overlaid with a silver braid with three coral silk threads, adorned with golden brass fittings. Width of 4.6 cm. Complete with saber suspension straps but without buckles.
Very good condition, slight oxidation on the passementerie.
CARTRIDGE BOX
Wooden case covered with scarlet leather, lined at the back with coral velvet, height of 7.5 cm, upper width of 13.5 cm, lower width of 12.5 cm. Black varnished leather strap, height of 8.5 cm, upper width of 15 cm, lower width of 16 cm; bordered with a golden brass rim, featuring a gilt-embossed imperial eagle in the center.
Crimson leather band covered with a silver braid with three coral silk threads, adorned with golden brass fittings, with a lion head and shield decorated with the imperial eagle. Width of 5.3 cm.
Very good condition.
TROUSERS
Made of garance wool, with two wide almost black dark blue cloth bands on the sides (width of 4.5 cm), closing at the front with a six-button fly. Waist with four buttons at the front and four buttons at the back for suspender attachment, all in brass and marked "RUELLE * 1st LANCIERS". Back martingale with brass buckle and prong. Vertically cut side pockets. Black varnished leather underfeet. Fly lined with brown cloth. Waist and pocket lining in ivory cloth.
Fair condition, abrasions and moth holes.
