HELMET AND BREATHER OF THE SECOND REGIMENT OF CUIRASSIERS OF THE IMPERIAL GUARD, model 1854, Second Empire. 27724/27725
HELMET with bomb, visor and neck cover in sheet steel, brass fittings. Bomb numbered “1274”, dated “55” (1855) and marked with the 2nd Cuirassier Regiment (imperial crown and “2.C”). Visor and neck cover with folded brass bangle astride their outer edge, lined with black waxed sheepskin on the inside. Frontal band stamped in relief with the crowned “N” placed on two laurel branches. Crest (H 12 cm) composed of: two fins stamped with a series of 10 boxes decreasing towards the rear and bordered at the top with laurel leaves; and a mask (width 4.2 cm) stamped in relief at the top of a jellyfish head. Brass crest ornament garnished with scarlet horsehair. Mane of black horsehair with braided braid in the center, length approximately 83 cm. Chin strap with chin straps with intertwined rings, rosettes stamped with laurel leaves (diameter 5.3 cm).
Brass feather holder. Inner cap in black waxed leather cut into 9 wolf teeth.
Very good condition, small dent on the crest ornament, worn interior cap.
Steel breastplate composed of a backrest and a breastplate. Breastplate numbered on the outer edge “200”, lined with 21 brass nails and non-readable interior marking; In the upper part it has a needle holder hook and a hook for holding the cartridge bag banner. Interior marking “Manufre de Klingenthal Coulaux & Cie 1854” “1T 2L N°229”.
Backrest numbered “200” on the outer edge, lined with 39 brass studs, garnished at the top with two leather straps covered with an interlaced 8-shaped link chain in brass with steel lock ending in leather pulls , and at the bottom of a black patent leather belt model 1862. Interior marking identical to that of the breastplate “Manufre de Klingenthal Coulaux & Cie 1854” “1T 2L N°229”.
Very good condition, complete belt but broken on the left side, interior of the breastplate blackened later.
