H 9 cm, width 9.5 cm deployed.
France.
First Empire.
Excavation piece, good condition, small missing at the top of one of the wings.
NOTE :
This type of plate, generally attributed to light cavalry, is in reality used by both foot and horse troops. In the present case, we assume that this plate belonged to the 1st line infantry regiment which fought in the Spanish campaign.
An identical plate from the 1st regiment is reproduced as an illustration in the work “Napoleon's battles in the South-West”, Jean Quatre Vieux and Pierre Migliorini, page 144.
It should be noted that the plates of the 1st and 2nd regiments are with uncrowned eagles, while the plates of the 3rd regiment are with crowned eagles.
