CUIRASSIERS TRUMPET HELMET, model 1872 modified 1874, Third Republic. 27203-1

One-piece bomb, made of pressed sheet steel, pierced at the top with three suction cup holes (diameter 1.5 cm), marked with the manufacturer “HELBRONNER”, stamped with the size “59”. Visor in sheet steel lined with a 7 mm wide brass rod placed astride the outer edge; underside covered in black waxed leather. Neck cover identical to the visor. Brass headband stamped in relief with a flaming pomegranate surrounded by laurel leaves.
Each chin strap is made up of a chin strap of 15 copper scales cut alternately with three or two festoons, which decrease in width from the top one, which is 3.5 cm, to the last one, which no longer has only 2 cm.
The right chin strap is fitted at its end with a small riveted copper plate to which a buckle also made of copper is attached. At the end of the left one there is a similar plate encasing a copper D topped with a black varnished calfskin strap.
The upper scale of each chinstrap is covered with a movable copper rosette, independent of the chinstrap. It is circular in shape (diameter 4.2 cm) showing four rushes in relief. Rosette attached to the bomb by means of a hinge.
Brass crest composed of two fins, a mask and a covering.
Fins decorated with palmettes and a net at their upper edge. The lower part forms a scalloped edge decorated with water leaves, attached to the bomb using two screws.
A tin-plated sheet metal plate joins the upper edges of the fins, fixing their spacing.
Mask stamped with a Medusa head in relief. The covering, also stamped, represents the continuation of the hair of Medusa's head with intertwined serpents (length 9 cm).
Crest ornament composed of a socket stamped with water leaves in relief and a lens formed of two stamped shells. Fixed on the front of the crest and supporting a scarlet tuft of horsehair, H 6.5 cm.
Mane of scarlet horsehair, length approximately 70 cm.
Plumet holder in stamped brass, tubular shape with square section, slightly decreasing towards the bottom, H 3.2 cm.
Interior trim consisting of a turban and a headdress in shiny black sheepskin cut with eight wolf teeth with brass eyelets.

Very good condition, slight oxidation on the back of the bomb, lining of the neck cover with gaps, interior cap worn.
