BELT OF THE 10th REGIMENT OF DRAGOONS model of October 7, 1845, reissued by the regulation of December 20, 1858, Second Empire. 29077
Made of plain white buffalo leather without any piping or stitching, consisting of a 6 cm wide belt band; length for the 3rd size is 87 cm. The ends are cut in a square shape. The front end, on the strong side of the buffalo leather, is doubled through the opening of a copper loop, where it is stopped by a square bar (called a mobile lock) on the loop, which allows the belt band to be lengthened or shortened at will, without any buckle, only through the pressure of the lock. The end of the band is folded over by about 5 cm and left unsewn contrary to regulations. The other end of the band is also doubled through the stud of the buckle. Near the anterior end at 20 cm (3rd size), there is a first loop of 3.5 cm wide occupying the full width of the band, inside which it is sewn with two stitches at the top and two at the bottom, a second loop is sewn at 39 cm. It supports the copper D holding the front hanger; it is folded back underneath by 3 cm after embracing the D, which in its upper part is flush with the bottom of the band. This D has a width of 5 cm and a height of 2 cm excluding decorative parts. It is about 5 mm thick and carries a saber hook of the same brass wire. Length of the hook's shank 4 cm, same for the beak 5 cm. Small hanger, length 32 cm, width 3.4 cm. Large hanger, length 73 cm, width 3 cm, stamped with "3834" and an old number "2771" (?), and bears the number "2622". At each end, they have two buttonholes 5 cm apart. Copper double buttons (diameter 1.5 cm) engage in these buttonholes in pairs to attach the hangers to the belt and the saber. The belt is hot-stamped on the inside with the number "16", dated "1870", assigned to the 10th Regiment of Dragoons "10e De Dons".
Copper plate slightly curved, embossed in relief with a grenade. It is almost square, with beveled edges and softened corners. Towards its right edge, when viewed from the inside, a strong copper stud is welded, and on the other side, there is a clip reattached at its base. This clip runs along the entire length of the buckle fixed at the other end of the band. Height of the plate 7.5 cm, width 8.5 cm, with beveled corners.
