Cardboard carcass covered with cotton canvas glued with shellac (1858). Height: 20 cm in front, 22 cm in back. Patent leather cap called bucket or imperial, diameter 14.5 cm. Curled lambskin sleeve in natural black color. The 1858 text specifies that it is separated from the carcass above the forehead by a sheepskin pad: this slight projection serves to preserve sight and prevents the hairs of the muff from entering the eyes, this pad is clearly present on this copy.
The chin strap is made of a strip of varnished calfskin on which 61 intertwined copper rings are sewn (diameter: 2 cm). Worn under the chin, it is attached to the lower edge of the talpack by hooks mounted on oval plates in black lacquered metal. In the raised position, it is attached at the back of the headdress near the cap to a simple black lacquered iron hook: the length of the chin strap is 48 cm.
Half-ellipsoid pompom (H 7 cm, L 4.5 cm) in scarlet wool thistle, decorated with the regimental number “3” in brass (H 3.2 cm), mounted on wood with steel rod bent in two the rear. Plumet in the shape of an egret, made of green rooster feathers with a scarlet upper third. Brass tulip at the foot of the plume. Black lacquered iron hook fixed at the top of the rear of the carcass to attach the cord (1858).
Interior leather cap cut into six wolf teeth with brass eyelet (a seventh wolf tooth is cut but is not intended to be attached to the lace allowing the size to be adjusted.
Two white paper labels printed in blue are stuck to the inside of the cap. Printed regimental label “9e de CHASSEURS / N° 908 - 67”, manufacturer’s label “J.F. GOUERY & Cie FAB ts A PARIS / 5p”.
