TUNIC OF SMALL OUTFIT OF OFFICER OF THE VOLTIGEURS OF THE IMPERIAL GUARD, model 1860, Second Empire. 26870-1
Collared tunic in dark blue piped daffodil cloth, cut out at the front. The collar is garnished on each side at the front with a bright pomegranate embroidered in threads, cannetille and gilded silver sequins on a daffodil sheet (L 6 cm, H 2 cm). It closes straight at the front with 9 buttonholes, large domed uniform buttons in gilded brass stamped with the crowned imperial eagle with the inscription “GUARD IMPERIAL” (diameter 2.2 cm). Entirely in dark blue cloth with daffodil piping. Facings in dark blue piped daffodil cloth forming a point at the front, without facing tabs, but surmounted on the side by 2 small module uniform buttons (diameter 1.6 cm). False vertical rear pockets garnished with 2 large uniform buttons. Ivory satin lining with burgundy waxed leather belt.
On the left chest a black thread is sewn to hang two decorations.
France.
Second Empire.
Very good state of conservation, epaulette straps in later golden trimmings.
NOTE :
All the uniforms of Grenadiers or Voltigeurs of the Second Empire Imperial Guard that I have had the opportunity to examine have regulatory collars closing straight, on this tunic the collar is indented, and perfectly sword, it is a variant probably due to the initiative of the master military tailor who made it. To my knowledge, this is the only known example with this characteristic.
