KÉPI OF CAPTAIN ANTOINE DE CHASSELOUP-LAUBAT IN THE 4TH REGIMENT OF THE VOLTIGEURS OF THE IMPERIAL GUARD, Second Empire (1868-1871). 26874
Headband in black cloth covered with a regulatory elite braid woven cul-de-dé, in gilded silver H 2.1 cm topped with three flat braids indicating the rank of captain. Madder cloth headdress with two soutaches in flat golden braids sewn vertically on each side. Cap bordered with a flat golden braid and a Hungarian knot in its center with three soutaches in golden cords, diameter 13 cm. At the front above the headband is sewn a pomegranate in threads, cinnamon and gilded silver sequins (H 4 cm) on madder cloth. False chinstrap in gold braid; It is held on the headband by two half-bell buttons in gilded brass. Visor in black patent leather, lined underneath with black waxed leather, folded leather band astride the outer edge.
Inner headdress composed of a light brown leather band with iron on the upper part, topped with a purple silk headdress.
The underside of the cap has a handwritten label stuck “Képi having belonged to Mr de Casseloup-Laubat, former captain of the Grenadiers of the Imperial Guard 2nd Empire”. This mention causes confusion with the regiment of Voltigeurs de la Garde Impériale in which Mr. de Chasseloup-Laubat served from 1865 to 1870. He was related to the Marquis de Chasseloup-Laubat, president of the Council of State.
France.
Second Empire.
Good condition. This kepi was worn during the 1870 campaign, which justifies classifying it in good condition despite its insolated sheet, a few moth holes and accidents on the headdress, the oxidized trimmings, the edge of the visor worn, the inner headdress worn. It nonetheless remains an exceptional testimony to the Franco-German campaign of 1870.

More than a kepi, this historical souvenir is reproduced in the work of Louis Delpérier “THE IMPERIAL GUARD OF NAPOLEON III”, Éditions du Canonnier 2000, page 381 illustrations 769 and 770.
