CARTRIDGE COVERS OF THE GRENADIERS OF THE IMPERIAL GUARD, Second Empire. 26878
In white canvas, rectangular in shape with rounded lower edges, H 20 cm, width 22 cm. Printed in black ink on the front of a crown framed with a pomegranate in each corner. Edges trimmed with a saddle-stitched white canvas braid. The upper part is intended to fold over the top of the pouch, at the back a lace is sewn on each side. The lower part is lined, like the sides, with a 3 cm wide canvas intended to encase the box of the pouch. Marking on the back in black ink of the 3rd Regiment: imperial crown and “3e G”, number “3347”.

BIOGRAPHY :
This pouch cover belonged to Jean Marie CHAVOIN, living in Charlieu in the Loire department, born September 11, 1834 in Coutouvre, worker. He was incorporated on August 20, 1859 into the 3rd Grenadier of the Guard, he came from the 93rd line infantry regiment which arrived in the corps on September 6, 1859. Enlisted during the Italian campaign in 1859. He received the medal of the Italian campaign. He was released on February 24, 1862 with a certificate of good conduct.
HISTORY:
According to Lieutenant de la Forest-Divonne of the 1st Grenadier Regiment, the cartridges were placed in stores on July 25. The Guard infantry retaining only the cartridge pouches. This measure was confirmed by General Vinoy on July 31. The cartridge case, however, appears on the panorama that Detaille and de Neuville devoted to the battle of Rezonville (August 16, 1870).
