Headband in dark green cloth (H 3 cm), bordered with a golden yellow soutache at the top. Headdress in madder cloth garnished on all four sides with a golden yellow soutache placed vertically. Madder cap with a golden yellow soutache drawing a Hungarian knot, the outer border of the cap is bordered with an identical soutache. False chinstrap in gold braid with half-bell buttons in gold brass. Square visor in black patent leather lined with green waxed morocco with black leather band folded astride the outer edge and stitched. Interior headband in black morocco, crown lined with brown leather.

This kepi is reproduced in figure 482 page 246 of the work “THE IMPERIAL GUARD OF NAPOLEON III”, Louis Delpérier, André Jouineau, Bertrand Malvaux, éditions du Canonnier 2000. Louis Delperier mentions in the legend of this kepi: “The cap orderly police can be replaced by the kepi in garrisons other than Paris (after 1864: Fontainebleau, Saint Germain-en-Laye, Meaux and Melun, the Directory only indicating the Guides in Paris in 1869). Some hairstyles may feature a Hungarian knot on the headband. The kepi will also be retained during the Siege of Metz in September-November 1870.”
