DRAGOON NCO HELMET, model 1872 modified 1874, Third Republic. 28495
Single-piece bomb made of nickel-plated steel sheet, stamped with balancer, hammered and brushed polished. It is pierced at the top with four suction cup holes (diameter 1.5 cm).
Visor, also made of nickel-plated steel sheet, bordered by a 6 mm wide copper circle placed on its edges and fixed at the ends by a rivet. underside of the visor in waxed green morocco leather.
Neck guard, also made of nickel-plated steel sheet, bordered by a 6 mm wide copper setting, placed overlapping. Underside of the neck guard sheathed in lacquered ochre calfskin, its edges are taken into the setting of the circle.
Copper headband stamped with a burning grenade surrounded by laurel leaves adheres to the bomb. Its base rests on the visor and its ends are riveted to the bomb in the part masked by the rosette of the chinstrap.
Each chinstrap is made up of 15 copper scales alternately cut into three or two scallops, which decrease in width from the top one, which is 3.5 cm wide, to the last one, which is only 2 cm wide. The right chinstrap is adorned at its end with a small copper plate riveted to which a buckle also in copper is attached. At the end of the left one, there is a similar plate attaching a copper "D" adorned with a black varnished calfskin rear lining.
The top scale of each chinstrap is covered by a movable copper rosette, independent of the chinstrap. It is circular in shape (diameter 4.2 cm) representing four raised bands. Rosettes attached to the bomb by means of a lock.
Bomb topped with a copper crest composed of two fins, a mask, and a covering.
The fins, placed vertically with a distance of 3.2 cm in front and 2.5 cm in the back, have the shape of a convex curvilinear triangle at the top and connect to the bomb with a concave base forming a festooned rim.
This rim is fixed to the bomb by four round-headed copper screws (2 per fin) with tallow drops inside the helmet stopped by square copper nuts.
Fins decorated with palmettes and a border net at their top edge; the rim is decorated with water leaves, all embossed in relief.
A tin-plated plate joins the upper edges of the fins which fixes their spacing.
The mask, serving as the anterior junction of the two fins by means of a solder, embossed with a relief head of Medusa. The cover, also embossed, represents the continuation of Medusa's hair with intertwined snakes (length 9 cm).
Black horsehair mane, approximately 60 cm long.
Copper stamped plume holder, H 3.2 cm, forming a socket, fixed obliquely from bottom to top on the bomb, just in front of the left chinstrap, by two threaded rods passing through the bomb.
Inner leather lining cut into seven loup tooth with eyelets. Turban in felt, in one piece.

Good condition, helmet never cleaned, pin of the right chinstrap lock partly broken, worn inner lining, neck guard lining with traces of glued label, traces of varnish on the first part of the left chinstrap.
