DRUM BOX OF LINE INFANTRY VOLTIGEURS, model 1854, Second Empire. 26868-1
Box composed of the barrel, two large circles, two small rolling circles, the gong, the ropes and the tie rods.
Shaped brass barrel, H 26 cm and diameter 37 cm. On the front part is fixed a crowned imperial eagle holding in its claws the sparkling spindle of Jupiter in stamped brass, H 17.3 cm, width 14 cm. On each side of the eagle, in the upper part and in the lower part, a stamped brass hunting horn is fixed on the drum, H 2.4 cm, width 3.7 cm. It is placed 5 cm from the bottom, a copper striker carrying an iron screw garnished with its iron ecru, intended to stretch the stamp on the skin. This strike, fixed by two copper rivets, is 6 cm long and 2.5 cm wide. On the side opposite this strike, a hook is fixed by a brass button, this hook is intended to fix the end of the stamp.
Large ash wood crate circles pierced with ten holes at equal distances. The exterior side is blue lacquered decorated between each string with a golden yellow painted hunting horn separated by a wavy white net. The inner side of these circles is also lacquered blue. H of circles 4.5 cm, diameter 39 cm.
Case skins in parchment calfskin proportioned to the body. The timbre one is thinner than the drum one. Gut rope stamp 1.2 mm in diameter.
Hemp ropes used to stretch the skin, cabled with nine strands, laced in a zigzag on the shaft passing through the holes in the circles. Rope circumference 6 mm.
White buffalo pulls, 4.5 cm wide at the top, 3 cm at the bottom towards the ends, 3.5 cm high. They are used as runners to tighten the ropes.
Total height of the drum 37 cm.
