IMPERIAL GUARD HELMET AND BREATHER SET, model 1854, Second Empire. 27051
HELMET with bomb, visor and neck cover in sheet steel with brass fittings. Bomb numbered “587”, dated “54” (1854). Visor and neck cover with folded brass bangle astride their outer edge, lined with black waxed sheepskin. Frontal band stamped in relief with the crowned “N” placed on two laurel branches. Crest (H 10.5 cm) composed of: two fins stamped with a series of ten boxes decreasing towards the rear and bordered at the top with laurel leaves; and a mask (width 4.1 cm) stamped in relief at the top of a jellyfish head. Brass crest ornament garnished with scarlet horsehair. Mane of black horsehair with braided braid in the center, length 40 cm. Chin strap with chin straps in black leather covered with intertwined rings, with rosettes stamped with laurel leaves (diameter 5.3 cm); each rosette is attached to the bomb using a brass screw.
Brass plume holder with round section, decreasing towards the bottom and molded with laurel leaves.
Inner cap in black leather cut into nine wolf teeth.
Good condition, some slight oxidation and bomb dents, the back of the sole of the mane has broken at the level of the tightening screw, inner cap worn with six wolf teeth partly torn.
Steel breastplate composed of a backrest and a breastplate. Plastron numbered on the outer edge "95" scratched and remarked "1108", lined with 21 brass nails with large brass hook for the passage of the pouch and hook for the passage of the aiguillettes, interior marking of the imperial manufacture of Klingenthal.
File numbered on the outer edge "633", scratched then "128", scratched again and registered a third time "443", lined with 39 brass nails, garnished at the top with two leather straps covered with a chain links in the shape of an 8 intertwined in brass with a steel lock ending in leather pulls, and at the bottom a black patent leather belt model 1862. Interior marking of the imperial factory of Châtellerault 1857.
Average condition, general oxidation on the entire breastplate and more particularly on the breastplate, formerly cleaned but which leaves traces, leather of the shoulder pads complete but the leather of the right shoulder pad is broken in the upper part, the cartridge hooks and needles are without warranty.
