POLICE HAT FOR A GRENADIER OFFICER OF THE IMPERIAL GUARD, model 1854, Second Empire. 28321
In dark blue cloth, scarlet piping, braid woven in gilded silver, crest embroidered in gilded silver thread in the shape of a pomegranate. Tassel in gilded silver trimmings.
Hat body in dark blue cloth with corded piping in scarlet cloth. These pipings come together on the right side to form a point whose apex reaches the bottom of the hat.
Two elliptical-shaped side flaps in dark blue cloth bordered on their convex development with gold braid (width 3.8 cm); these two elliptical shaped pieces are sewn to the body of the hat.
On the front, in the curvilinear angle formed by the recess of the two flaps, a bright pomegranate embroidered in gilded silver thread is sewn (H 5.2 cm, width 2.6 cm).
At the front corner of the crown of the cap, a golden pompom with a tassel and soft fringes called a well rope is attached.
Inner headdress entirely in shiny waxed calfskin, stamped in gold “MARC Mtre TAILLEUR 3ème GRENADIERS DE LA GUARDE”.
