POLICE HAT OF GRENADIERS OF THE IMPERIAL GUARD, model 1854, Second Empire. 28319
In dark blue cloth, scarlet piping, braid, badge embroidered with a pomegranate in scarlet wool.
Hat body in dark blue cloth with scarlet wool cord piping. These pipings come together on the right side to form a point whose apex reaches the bottom of the hat.
Two elliptical-shaped side flaps in dark bleu cloth bordered on their convex development with a scarlet wool braid (width 3 cm); these two elliptical shaped pieces are sewn to the body of the hat.
On the front, in the curvilinear angle formed by the recess of the two flaps, a bright pomegranate embroidered in scarlet wool threads is sewn (H 5.6 cm, width 3 cm).
At the front corner of the peak of the bonnet is attached an entirely scarlet tassel and fringed pompom.
Interior headdress entirely in black waxed sheepskin, with leather tab bearing ink stamps dated 1st quarter 1856, registered “1242” marked on the reverse “GI…”.

NOTE :
According to the regulations of April 16, 1859, the tassel of the caps became the color of the regiment: dark blue 1st regiment, scarlet 2nd regiment, daffodil 3rd regiment.
The receipt stamp is illegible at the regiment level, so it is either a first model first type cap (before 1859), or a cap from the 2nd regiment if the pompom was changed in 1859.
