NOTE :
This model of cap type 1862 for African hunters was worn in Algeria, it was distributed to the 1st regiment upon its arrival in 1864 as General Morris explained: “It would be desirable for all regiments coming from France to have this that we did for the 1st hussars”. In 1865 General Morris, inspecting the cavalry in Algeria, wrote about the 1st Hussar Regiment "among the caps issued to the corps in 1864, there were 753 of the old model removed in 1862 and which are more or less deteriorated" ( information given by Louis Delperier in the book LIGHT CAVALERIE FROM 1845 TO 1915 volume 1, page 223, Éditions du Canonnier 2007. These models are similar to type 1864, taller and without a number. The example we are presenting demonstrates that this model distributed in 1864, was manufactured in 1860 by one of the main suppliers to the French army, the famous Delahaussee.
