SHAKO CREW TRAIN TROOP, model 1872, Third Republic. 28342
Strong cardboard barrel covered with a sleeve of thick scarlet cloth. Black waxed leather cap. The top of the barrel is trimmed with black wool braid called “cul de dé” 20 mm wide. On each side in the upper part a scarlet lacquered copper ventilators. A black wool braid decorates each side and the back of the barrel. Roundel in stamped tinplate, tricolor painted, diameter 42 mm, held by a flat black square braid and a smooth semi-rounded brass button.
Chin strap with gold brass curb chain lined with black patent leather, held to the shako by three lion heads in gold metal on the sides and back. Visor in strong black patent leather, round shape.
Interior sheepskin headdress. Manufacturer's mark "Alexis Godillot - Paris". Blue printed paper label from Alexis Godillot indicating size “58”. Inner cover in black waxed calfskin. Complete with its leather chin strap attached to the inside of the shako.
Plumet in scarlet horsehair, olive in woolen cloth of the same color.
