SPANISH IRON SWORD called bivalve, 18th century. 25880AJC.
Iron sword called bivalve. Asymmetrical shell with molded edge larger on the guard side than the counter-guard. Straight cylindrical quillons with molded ends adjoining large rings fixed to the shell by four strong half-spherical rivets, width 24 cm, escutcheon cut into a brace. Pommel in inverted faceted truncated cones. Patinated twisted wooden spindle, framed by two brass ferrules. Double-edged blade molded with a groove on the first third inside which the following inscriptions “M.I.A.V.Z.U” are stamped on both sides, length 97 cm. On the ricasso, on one side the hallmark of Toledo “T” in a crowned shield; on the other a line “M” surmounted by a cross. Total length of the sword 117 cm.
