SPANISH IRON SHELL RAPIER, 17th century. 25885AJC
Fully steel frame in one piece. Guard with one main branch and two secondary branches connected to the shell with joining arch and two straight quillons with molded ends, rings and two shells joined together by a clever arrangement of secondary branches arranged in a lace and flying buttress. Width of the guard at the ends of the quillons 28.5 cm. There are no less than ten heat-welded ones providing protection between the shells and reinforcing the main branches. Guard shell decorated with bands and floral motifs, the counter guard is smooth and surrounded by a groove. Flattened cylinder pommel decorated with lines. Wooden rocket entirely filigreed with iron, braided ferrules. Pointed escutcheon and flat ricasso highlighted with fillets. Double-edged blade and central groove on the first third bearing hollow, on each side, the inscription “IN TOLEDO”, length 82 cm. Total length 108 cm.
