Tunic-skirt in black cloth, buttoned straight and crossed at the front with seven uniform buttons, entirely daffodil piped. Black piped daffodil collar, straight black piped daffodil lapels topped with two silver lizard braids on a daffodil background, sewn at an angle. The front is garnished with two rows of seven large-module half-spherical uniform buttons in brass, diameter 2.2 cm, embossed with the number “24”. Epaulet straps in daffodil cloth covered with black cloth. At the back, two false vertical pockets forming a point in black daffodil-piped cloth, each garnished with two large-module uniform buttons. Belt tabs in black daffodil piped cloth with a small uniform button, diameter 1.5 cm.
Interior lining in ivory cloth with stamp of the 24th line infantry regiment, dated 2nd T 1870 then 3rd T 1871, registered “2588”.
Second Empire scarlet cloth epaulettes marked “6e Rt GM”.

Average condition, accidents and repairs, moth-eaten lining, one button changed at the front (button of the 26th regiment), epaulettes of the model but not registered with the regiment. The general condition is nevertheless justified by the campaigns in which this regiment took part.

The 24th Infantry Regiment (24th RI) is an infantry regiment of the French Army created on April 26, 1775 in Strasbourg under the name Brie, during the reign of King Louis XVI.

• By decree of May 2, 1859, the 3rd infantry regiment provided 1 company to form the 101st line infantry regiment.

• On August 1, 1870, the 24th Infantry Regiment became part of the Army of the Rhine.
• With the 40th infantry regiment of Colonel Jean-Baptiste Vittot, the 24th formed the 2nd Brigade under the orders of General Charles Micheler. This 2nd Brigade with the 1st Brigade of General Doens, two batteries of 4 and one of machine guns, a company of engineers constitute the 3rd Infantry Division commanded by General of Division Merle de La Brugière de Laveaucoupet. This infantry division evolves within the 2nd Army Corps with Major General Frossard as commander-in-chief.
