OFFICER'S SABER OF THE FOOT GRENADIERS OF THE IMPERIAL GUARD, First Empire, 1804-1814. 27646
Gilded bronze mount, hilt on a “hunter-style” branch chiseled with laurel leaves and acanthus leaves. Ear-shaped cruiser engraved with oak leaves, on which the profile of Emperor Napoleon crowned with silver laurel leaves is riveted. Long-tailed cap decorated in relief with laurel leaves. Wooden handle entirely filigree brass.
Curved blade with hollow sides engraved and gilded, all on a blued background on two thirds. On the front, near the heel, a trophy of weapons, cannons, flags, drums is represented in a rectangular cartouche, it is signed “IS & C”. Above, corollas of foliage are represented then a large cartouche approximately 20.5 cm long with the inscription “GRENADIER À PIEP (sic)”. This decoration ends with a trophy representing the crowned imperial eagle placed on a wreath of laurel and oak leaves framing an “N” placed on a box.
Same decoration on the rear side, but with a central cartridge bearing the inscription “GARDE IMPERIALE”.
Round blade back.
Blade length 75 cm. Scarlet cloth tie.
Black patent leather scabbard with two brass fittings. Brass fittings decorated with lines, edges cut into festoons and cap fitted with a button for wearing on the belt.

Good condition, period blade with a spelling mistake in the word PIED “PIEP” as can sometimes be found with Klingenthal. was subsequently recolored.
