OFFICER'S SWORD OF THE HUNDRED-GUARDS SQUADRON, Second Empire. 28076
French model, hilt with one branch decorated with a laurel branch. Olive-shaped pommel topped with an acorn, both sides are decorated with a radiant sun with an imperial crown. Donkey cruise decorated with the N, wooden spindle entirely filigreed with brass, brass ferrule. Guard tray molded in relief of an imperial eagle with decoration of oak branches, laurel and acanthus leaves. Palmette-shaped quillon. Scarlet cloth tie.
Triangular blade signed “AO” on the heel, length 76.4 cm.
Black patent leather scabbard with two chiseled brass fittings.

Very good condition, varnished scabbard with normal wear.
NOTE :
An identical sword with a white lacquered scabbard is attributed to Lieutenant Verly before 1861, published in the magazine LA GIBERNE n° 12 year 1912 page 189; it was presented in the exhibition “Cent-Gardes for an Emperor, the elite squadron of Napoleon III”, which took place from March 6 to May 2, 2004 at the Museum of Historical Figurines in Compiègne, under number 155 , it is reproduced on page 110 of the work “Cent-Gardes for an Emperor” published for this exhibition.
