BEAULIEU TREUILLE TEST RIFLE (lower armament), Second Empire. 28078
Round barrel, loading breech of the Chassepot model (needle, central percussion) marked “A de P”, length 19 cm, then round barrel length 38 cm
One-piece short barrel walnut frame, hot-stamped “AdP” stock. Steel fittings, single band hood, classic regulation shape butt plate. Iron guard carrying the lower leaf at the front in an open hook which protects the cocking curvature of the breech and also allows the weapon to be supported with the thumb without releasing the reins. The trigger guard is formed by the spring.
For this rifle, no adaptable blade has been provided.
Weapon length: 94 cm. Barrel length: 57 cm (flush with the receiver). Caliber: 9mm.
France.
Second Empire.
Very good state.
NOTE :
This variant of the test rifle was undoubtedly produced to compensate for the defect of the first type Treuille de Beaulieu rifle, which kept the breech open when cocked, and to be able to use central percussion cartridges. However, the blocking problem is still not resolved.
