GRENADIER OFFICER'S SHAKO OF THE 1ST LINE INFANTRY REGIMENT, model 1812, First Empire. 27965
Cardboard barrel covered with black felt, bordered at the bottom with a black patent leather bourdalou with four rows of stitching (H 2.5 cm) with brass tightening buckle at the back. It is covered with a 24.5 cm diameter waxed cowhide leather cap folded over the felt. H of the barrel includes the bourdalou and the folded cap part 19 cm. In the upper part, braid in gilded silver trimmings, woven with sticks and scalloped on the lower edge, width 4 cm, placed on a black velvet ribbon extending beyond the lower part (1 cm). Visor (width 6.2 cm) in black patent leather printed in relief at the top with simulated stitching, green waxed interior, golden brass bangle folded astride the exterior border. Tricolor cockade in silver-scarlet and blue trimmings (diameter 7.4 cm). Model 1812 front plate in gilded brass stamped in relief and cut in the shape of a crowned imperial eagle with outstretched wings holding in its claws the spindle of Jupiter placed on a base in the shape of a shield cut with the number "1", bordered by protruding moldings and streaked with branches of oak and laurel, and, on each side, a pomegranate. H of the plate 13.3 cm, width 12.2 cm.
Chinstraps composed of a chin strap in soft leather covered in black velvet and covered with 15 scales cut alternately into four and three festoons, the penultimate scale has two festoons and the last only one; the scales are attached to the leather using brass staples, length approximately 23 cm, width of the largest scale 3.2 cm and the smallest scale 2.2 cm, ending with two laces. Round rosette (diameter 3.7 cm) stamped in their center with a bright bomb on a sandblasted background and bordered by a protruding molding.
Inner headdress composed of a black waxed leather headband (the upper canvas part is missing).
Austrian oval-shaped pompom (H 7.6 cm, L 6.4 cm) in wood covered with black cloth and bordered with five large twists in gilded silver trimmings (gros broth) decorated in its center with the number “2” in gilded and chiseled brass indicating the company number.

Very good state of conservation, oxidation from use on the trimmings, the upper canvas part of the cap is missing, interior of the visor in used condition, chin strap laces modified later.
