SHAKO OF THE 6th REGIMENT OF LIGHT INFANTRY VOLTIGEURS, type 1812, First Empire. 27231

Body made of felt 21 cm high, covered by a cap of very strong waxed cowhide, with a diameter of 23.4 cm folded over the felt to a height of 4 cm. At the bottom of the felt, a bourdalou (or bourdaloue) in plain cowhide, 2.2 cm wide. Visor in strong patent cowhide sewn to the front of the shako. Tin plate (H 13.4 cm, width 11.2 cm), type 1812, with a crowned eagle with the lower escutcheon stamped with a hunting horn in the center of which the number “6” is cut. Roundel in three-color painted boiled leather secured to felt using steel wires, diameter 7.2 cm; white circle outside, then red and blue in the center. Under the cockade is sewn a gusset intended for the powder puff. Chinstraps each composed of a double sheepskin strap on which are mounted 14 iron scales cut alternately into two or three festoons, plus a fifteenth of a circular shape at the end, the first scale is 3.3 cm wide, the second a little less and thus decreasing until the last one which is 1.8 cm wide. All these scales are each stopped by a flat iron wire and ended with a lace. Chinstraps secured by a rosette, named in the 1812 regulation “large button” of the same metal as the chinstrap, 4.1 cm in diameter. Rosette bordered by a protruding molding, in its center a hunting horn stamped in relief.
Round pompom, diameter 6.5 cm, topped with a 5.5 cm aurora flame.

Fairly good condition, traces of oxidation on the plate, rear chin strap cord, accidents and losses to the bourdalou with missing gusset and rear buckle, missing interior cap.
