SABER OF CHASSEUR À CHEVAL OR LANCERS OF THE IMPERIAL GUARD, First model, First Empire (1804-1810). 26840
Hungarian-style saber entirely in brass, the model of which was created in 1800 by Nicolas Boutet for the Consul Guard.
Hussar guard with a molded branch, crown with a plain and long tail, straight quillon, faceted ear flaps; wooden rocket covered in black waxed calfskin filigree with a double brass wire. The branch of the quillon is hallmarked with the “V” for Verified or Visited, two illegible hallmarks (an oval hallmark and another rectangular hallmark, probably the hallmarks of Versailles).
Curved blade with hollow sides hallmarked with the “C” of inspector Nicolas Cherrer, from June 1807 to December 1808, “L” of F.L Lobstein reviser at the Klingenthal factory from June 1804 to July 1821; flat back signed “Mfture Imple du Klingenthal Coulaux Frères”. Length 84cm; width at the heel 3.4 cm, thickness at the heel 1 cm, arrow of 6 cm.
Curved scabbard with wooden barrel with two bail bracelets. Entrance to the sheath lined with a bowl. Rectangular bracelets whose body is domed and bordered at the top and bottom with a protruding net; spherical bail eyebolts; steel bail rings. In the central part between the two bail bracelets the scabbard is cut with a hollow with rounded ends which reveals the wood covered with leather in this place, it is framed by two brass splints riveted to the scabbard by four brass eyebolts. Steel stinger. Hallmark on the cover “JC” by Jean Cazamajou, reviser at Versailles from 1803 to August 1806, then from January 1809 to September 1811.
