BIOGRAPHY :
Officer of mounted hunters of the Imperial Guard, charging is an equestrian portrait painted by Théodore Géricault in 1812. Initially titled Portrait of Lieutenant M.D., the painting attracted the attention of the painter during its exhibition at the Salon de Peinture from November 1812 to February 1813. Dominique Vivant Denon awards him a medal1. The painting subsequently changes its title several times.
The painting depicts an officer of the Imperial Guard Mounted Hunter Regiment on a prancing horse. It was completed in five weeks.
