BIOGRAPHY :
Antoine Charles Louis, Count of Lasalle, was a cavalry general of the First Empire, born in Metz on May 10, 1775 and died in combat during the Battle of Wagram on July 6, 1809. Coming from a noble family, he enlisted very young in the royal army. Under the French Revolution, he became an officer, then took part in the Italian and Egyptian campaigns where he stood out for his audacity and his brilliant coups.
Appointed colonel of the 10th hussar regiment on his return to France in 1800, he was made brigadier general at the dawn of the Napoleonic wars. At the head of a cavalry brigade which became the "Infernale", Lasalle accumulated victories against the Prussians during the campaign of 1806 - notably with the capture of the fortress of Stettin.
