PARISIAN NATIONAL GUARD:
The Paris National Guard is a unit of the French National Guard based in Paris. Raised in July 1789, it was the first unit of national guards.
The Paris National Guard was a citizen militia responsible for maintaining order and military defense. It was involved in all the events that marked the political life of France from the Revolution of 1789 to the Paris Commune in 1871, which led to the suppression of the National Guard.
CONQUERORS OF THE BASTILLE:
The Conquerors of the Bastille were the rioters who took part in the capture of the Bastille on July 14, 1789. A study by Raymonde Monnier shows that 69% of its members were workers from the Faubourg Saint-Antoine.
The Conquerors of the Bastille formed an association with statutes and regulations. Like veterans, they took part in civic celebrations and wore a decorative copper wall crown on their chests. The Conquerors of the Bastille distinguished themselves from other revolutionaries by a medal inscribed with the Latin quote "Ignorant ne Datos ne quisquam serviat ensesnote" ("Do they not know that weapons were given against servitude?") and with a ribbon in the colors of the city of Paris. Each of them also held a copper seal depicting the towers of the Bastille.
By a decree of June 19, 1790, the National Assembly granted them a patent, decorations, a uniform, and weapons. The phrase "Given by the Nation to [...], conqueror of the Bastille" was engraved on the rifle barrel and saber blade.
On the Feast of the Federation on July 14, 1790, they were given places of honor.
As time passed, they were subjected to ridicule for constantly dwelling on their heroic act.
