The body of the shako consists of a 19.5 cm high felt. It is covered by a very strong black waxed cowhide leather cap, with a diameter of 24.4 cm, folded over the felt at a height of 4 cm. At the bottom of the felt, is sewn a bourdalou (or bourdaloue) in plain cowhide, 2.3 cm wide, having at the back a brass buckle (H 2.8 cm, width 2 cm), with its barb also in brass, under this buckle a simple calfskin gusset, to facilitate the game of bourdalou.

Ganse composed of a tricolor braid 2 cm wide covers the cockade, it is sewn from the top of the cap to the top of the bourdalou. France.
First Empire.
Very good condition, used inner cover, front plate reconstituted later.

NOTE :
This copy is extremely rare, the plate was known to us by a drawing in the magazine LA GIBERNE (Recorbet collection). The shako presented reached us without its plate, thanks to the drawing published in LA GIBERNE we were able to reconstruct a plate with the proportions of the shako, it should be noted that even the traces of seams correspond to the drawing and the traces of the shako.
The shakos without visor are worn before 1804, from 1804 certain corps receive a visor which is stapled to the bottom of the bourdalou (as for the corps of the sailors of the Imperial Guard), fixed visors appear around 1806.
The artillery shako in 1804 is a shako devoid of plate and chinstraps (they will appear in 1806).
