HELMET OF A FIREFIGHTER OFFICER OF THE CITY OF PARIS, model of May 15, 1855 modified 1872, Third Republic. 25499
Entirely in gilded brass. Crest stamped with eleven decreasing gadroons. Front plate stamped in relief on a sandblasted background with the coat of arms of the city of Paris framed by an oak branch and a laurel branch in the lower part; in the upper part inscription “SAPEURS POMPIERS DE PARIS”. Brass plume holder with square section decreasing downwards. Visor and neck cover surrounded by a brass ring lined with black waxed sheepskin. Inner cap in black waxed leather cut with eight wolf teeth. Chinstraps each composed of a chin strap with scales cut alternately into two and three festoons, they are chiseled and bordered with a smooth molding. Round rosettes with protruding molding attached to the bomb using a screw. Chin guard ending with a leather strap, right chin guard ending with a brass buckle with pin.

Good condition, neck cover band split in two places and damaged neck cover with slits, bomb split in the rear part and the beginning of a slit near the feather holder, original front headband but probably reattached during the helmet repair, worn interior cap, one scale detached.
