Obverse: Profile of a woman's face around which is the inscription "RÉPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE" (French Republic). The engraver's signature, Frédéric de Vernon, is located below the woman's bust.
Reverse: Crown formed with an oak branch and a laurel branch. The center of the crown is blank as the medal was not awarded. Around the crown are inscriptions of the event being celebrated, along with the date and location where it took place, "CONCOURS DE MANŒUVRE DE POMPES À INCENDIE DU 30 MAI 1886 * VILLE D'ISSY (SEINE)" (FIRE PUMP MANEUVER COMPETITION ON MAY 30, 1886 * CITY OF ISSY (SEINE)).
