NOTE: In his book "Sabers and swords - Troops on horseback from the Empire to our days - Second volume", Michel Pétard, page 120 note 276, specifies that the old cavalry sabers are recovered from the arsenals as well as the parts available and are used in a spirit of economy to produce sabers likely to be returned to service. From the four-pointed mounts of 1854, reserve cavalry and dragoon sabers were created, mounted on new blades of 1880, with a single hollow pan. This model will be used to establish the cavalry saber 1882.
