MILITARY MEDAL, created on January 22, 1852, 7th type, Third Republic. 25126
On the obverse, within a laurel wreath, a blue enamel circle with the inscription "RÉPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE - 1870" and the effigy of the Republic in profile; on the reverse, the motto "VALEUR ET DISCIPLINE."
The medal is surmounted by a trophy of arms symbolizing the land and sea armies of the French army.
The reverse of the trophy is flat, without the backplate of the cuirass, connected to the medal by a ring.
Yellow ribbon bordered with a green stripe.

HISTORY:
Created by Louis Napoléon, President of the Second Republic to reward the exploits of non-commissioned officers and soldiers and compensate for the limited promotions they received in the Order of the Legion of Honour, it also exceptionally rewards Marshals and General Officers who have commanded in chief.
