Made in white metal, depicting an array of weapons, a breastplate, a helmet, an anchor, and flags representing the two armed forces of the time, the Army and the Navy. A ribbon at the base of the decoration bears the inscription "Oublier ...Jamais" (Forget ...Never).
Ribbon in the national colors of blue-white-red, with black and green vertical stripes at the ends. Clasp with the dates of the Franco-Prussian War "1870-1871".
Height 42 mm, Width 28 mm

Created by decree on November 9, 1911, awarded with a personalized diploma to 150,000 surviving veterans. The project was initiated by Senator Maurice BERTEAUX.
