TRUMPET BANNER OF THE 1st COMPANY OF MUSKETEERS OF THE KING'S MILITARY HOUSE, Restoration, 1814-1815. 30033

Square-shaped banner, 50 x 50 cm.
Made of blue silk, with identical embroidery on both sides, featuring at its center the Arms of France and Navarre (under a royal crown, the coat of arms with three fleurs-de-lis on blue velvet and the Arms of Navarre on a crimson background are depicted, with King Louis XVIII's cipher in between; these two coats of arms are surrounded by the collars of the Order of Saint Michael and the Order of the Holy Spirit) in trimmings, threads, silver cannetille, silver-gilt, dark blue velvet, scarlet silk threads, yellow, and pale green. The background of the banner is richly embroidered with laurel leaves, foliage corollas, and lily branches.
The company emblem (a cross fleur-de-lis cinched by three scarlet flames) is embroidered at each corner.
The banner is bordered with a braid in golden trimmings and fringed on all four sides with golden trimmings and soft threads known as "cordes à puits." The top part consists of a blue silk sheath adorned at each end with a cord of the same color.
Total height of the banner with its sheath is 58 cm. Total width of the banner with its fringes is 56 cm.

Very good condition, the scarlet silks on one of the two faces are slightly sun-faded.

PROVENANCE:
This banner comes from the memorabilia of Marshal Lauriston, the last lieutenant captain of the 1st Company. It was part of a set of four banners dispersed during the sale on October 26, 1972, at the Hôtel Drouot, room n° 8 Lot 87.
Out of these four banners, the Army Museum acquired one, the antiquarian of the time Charles Marchal bought two examples: the one we are presenting today, as well as another banner kept in a private French collection. The fourth example was purchased by an individual and was later auctioned at the Fontainebleau Auction House on April 10, 2022, lot n° 60.

HISTORY:
On December 31, 1815, the King presented the flag and standard to Marshal Lauriston during the disbandment. In 1914, General de Vibraye kept the emblems. The flag is currently at the Army Museum, while the standard and trumpet banners are in private collections.
The Titeux indicates the price of each "trumpet banner" as 580 francs.
The company consisted of eight trumpets.
