LEGRAND Madame (active in 1797 and 1804)
Miniature painter. She was the wife of the painter Sicot (or Scott) Pierre-Nicolas Legrand and in 1797 lived with her husband in Paris, at 35 rue de Grenelle (Faubourg Saint-Honoré). She exhibited two miniature portraits at the Salon the same year as her husband (number 297). She is likely the same Madame Legrand who worked as a painter at the Sèvres factory from 1784 to 1798. Several Legrand family members worked there at the same time. Her drawing is correct, her miniatures finely executed, but the poses remain conventional. She painted the skin, especially the face, with broad, horizontal, slightly orange brushstrokes.
Signature: "Cnne Le Grand pinxit" under the Directory, then "Mme Le Grand pinxit" under the First Empire.
