Turban in madder cloth mounted on a cardboard carcass, the side and back seams are trimmed with a flat braid in gold trimmings, H at the front 15.5 cm. Black patent leather cap (diameter 12.5 cm). At the front of the turban are stapled two figures forming the number 63 in cut and guilloché gilded brass. Headband sewn at the bottom of the turban, it is in dark blue cloth in one piece, H 4 cm, bordered at the top with a golden braid, as well as a braid at the bottom at the level of the visor. Visor in strong square cowhide, width 4.5 cm, green oilskin underneath. Tricolor lacquered metal cockade, diameter 5 cm. In the center the cockade is pierced with a hole which receives the tail of the button folded and welded inside the cockade. Roundel strap formed of two strands of square braid in golden trimmings of 4 mm in size redoubled around the tail of the button. The four strands combined have a width of 2.4 cm, they are tucked between the turban and the gusset. Golden tombac copper button, flattened half-spherical, diameter 14 mm. Inner cap in black leather cut into six wolf teeth partly gilded on their edge, at the bottom of the cap is stuck a printed label "DELION Md Chapelier / ANGERS / Rue St Laud n° 91". Chin strap in black patent leather.
Lenticular wooden pompom covered with orange wool cord.
Cardboard transport box covered with blue paper, lid bearing the stamp “E. ABBANERE / RUE DES ARTS N° 1 / TOULOUSE”.

Good condition. Shako with a few small moth holes, front braid unstitched at the top, pompom not from the model. Box with small accident in the back part at the level of the lid.
History:
The 63rd infantry regiment took part in combat against Abdelkader's troops in 1835-1836.
1835-1839: Algeria
1840: garrison in Nîmes, December 10 Paris.
1841 Angers.
1841 to 1861: Angers, Verdun, Lille, Givet, Strasbourg, Lyon, Versailles, Paris, Ovaux camp, Paris, Cambrai, Nancy, Châlons camp, Neuf-Brisach then Lyon.
Second Empire
By decree of May 2, 1859 the 63rd infantry regiment provided 1 company to form the 102nd line infantry regiment.
Garrisoned in Poitiers in 1861.
In 1862 he left for Algeria.
In 1863 he stationed in Philipeville (Skikda) and Collo (El-Qoll), then in Constantine (Qacentina).
In March 1864 the regiment took part in a column to put down a revolt in the vicinity of Tébessa (Tbessa).
The regiment was then stationed at La Calle (Al Cala).
Then the regiment joined Sétif (Stif) in order to suppress a revolt in Kabylia. He underwent several combats around a position named Takitount (April 11-28, 1865).
After that the regiment returned to France, embarked at Bougie (July 23, 1865) landed at Marseilles (July 25, 1865).
Garrison in Soissons.
1867 in garrison at Verdun.
