MOURNING SWORD FOR CIVIL OR MILITARY USE, reign of Louis XV, Old Monarchy, circa 1750-1767.
Iron hilt without decoration. Crossguard with little rings. Handle made of finely grooved ebony with sculpted ferrules. Round pommel. Triangular blade engraved with geometric motifs on its first third, length 75.6 cm. Without scabbard.

NOTE:
The old appellation of "sergeant's sword" by Bottet in 1910 should be revised thanks to the research of Mr. Chouinard from Montreal and validated by Michel Pétard as follows: "Mourning sword for civil and military use, reign of Louis XV, Old Monarchy."
