Grenadiers, Voltigeurs, Zouaves, Lancers, Guides and many others... The last elite corps of monarchical essence that France possessed, the Imperial Guard of Napoleon III was closely associated with the splendor of the Second Empire and the final drama of 1870 , a decisive era in the formation of Europe and the current world. Despite this, no in-depth work had been devoted to it for more than a century and the treatment of the subject needed to be renewed. The author Louis Delpérier is a historian familiar with the Army archives. He has endeavored to bring together a previously unpublished documentary and photographic heritage, recently accessible. He also wanted to entrust André Jouineau with the creation of infographic plates to satisfy the discerning figure artist. As for the uniforms from the collections and which make this book a true “imaginary museum”, they were photographed by Bertrand Malvaux down to the smallest detail. The markings allowed the author to attribute the outfits to their owners, a great “first” in the history of uniformology, and thus to bring the soldiers of the Guard back to life.
The Imperial Guard of Napoleon III as you have never seen it!
