INFANTRY OFFICER SWORD, model 1855, Third Republic.
Brass hilt closely resembling the 1845 model with a narrower decoration, with three branches forming a guard decorated with an oak branch and a laurel branch on a background of a bundle of flags. Cap with a short tail decorated with an oak branch, laurel, and a palmette. Horn handle with filigree. Natural leather knot. Slightly curved blade with hollow bevels, the back engraved with "National Arms Manufacture of Châtellerault April 1914 Infantry adj mle 1845", length 77 cm. Steel scabbard with a single sling ring.

In fair condition, hilt needs cleaning, filigree broken but present, blade in perfect condition, scabbard oxidized.
NOTE:
Sword manufactured four months before the outbreak of war on August 3, 1914.
