DRAGONS OFFICER'S HELMET, model 1858, Second Empire. 21399
Bomb in gold-plated copper, the gutter of the base of the bomb is of the 1858 model with a single round ring. H of the bomb 15 cm.
Strong leather turban covered with a panther skin headband.
Visor (width 4.2 cm) and neck cover in gilded brass each edged with a gilt brass ring folded astride the outer border (width 8 mm). Visor lined with a green waxed sheepskin, neck cover lined with a brown waxed sheepskin.
Crest in stamped and gilded brass, composed of a mask stamped with a flaming bomb surmounted by a head of a jellyfish in relief with above a crown of laurel and oak branches (H of the crest 14 cm, width 4, 3cm); it is attached to the base of the canister by a round-headed gilt brass screw; two fins (H 12.5 cm) stamped with a decreasing series of 8 gadroons framed by pearls of acanthus leaves and palmettes and in the upper part by a series of laurel leaves; their base is folded outwards, cut into scallops and fixed to the bomb by 4 round-headed gilt brass screws; cover plate stamped with a decoration depicting a braided mane.
Brass crest ornament consisting of an olive decorated with palmettes, a socket with laurel branches and palmettes, the base of which is decorated with a small serrated disc, and a black horsehair puff (it is attached to the bomb by means of a long threaded rod and a nut Total H of the ornament 11.5 cm.
Gilt brass plume holder decorated with laurel branches, tubular in shape, slightly decreasing towards the bottom. Height 4.7cm.
Model 1858 chinstraps, mounted on a black velvet chinstrap, covered with a series of chiselled interlaced rings in gilt and chiseled brass, ending in a rosette stamped with bay leaves, fixed to the turban by means of a screw. Diameter of the rosette 5.5 cm. Width of the largest ring 3.8 cm, of the smallest 1.8 cm.
Black horsehair mane, apparent length of about 59 cm.
Inner headdress in sheepskin cut into 10 wolf teeth, gilded with iron on the outer edges.
Total H of the helmet 35.8 cm.

Good condition, the gilding is rubbed on the parts in relief, the crest has a few small dents and a larger depression between the first and second gadroon of the left wing. The skin has lost much of its fur. The strap terminating the right chin guard has been changed in the past. The inner cover is used, with rubbing and some tears.
