INFANTRY OFFICER'S SWORD, model 1855, Third Republic.
Brass hilt similar to the 1845 model with a narrower decoration, featuring three branches forming a shell adorned with an oak branch and laurel branch on a background of a bundle of flags. Cap with a short tail decorated with an oak branch, laurel branch, and a palmette. Horn handle with wire inlay. Natural leather knot. Slightly curved blade with hollow edges, the spine engraved with "Manufacture Imple de Châtellerault April 1855," length 76 cm. Steel scabbard with a belt ring bracelet.
Black varnished leather sword knot for field service.
